We are delighted to have hosted our third Annual Review Meeting at Jesmond Dene House on Thursday the 21st of November. In line with today’s ever-changing environment and its potential implications on our clients, this year’s event focused on The Concept of Constant Change.
During the event attendees heard from Chris Ralph, Chief Investment Officer at St. James’s Place Wealth Management, as well as some fantastic guest speakers including Simon Brown, former Durham and England Cricketer and David Kirk, Professor of Human-Computer Interaction at Newcastle University and Director of Open Lab.
The event was a huge success with another fantastic turnout of more than 50 attendees. We also received some brilliant feedback from the guests who attended and praise for the guest speakers on how passionately they spoke around such interesting and relevant topics.
Simon, who has had a post-professional sports career at Northern Rock, PricewaterhouseCoopers and most recently, as Head of Operations at the England and Wales Cricket Board, spoke about managing personal change. Elite sports professionals tend to experience a career transformation much earlier than most people, therefore Simon provided great insight into his experience of making major career changes and achieving excellence.
David, who was previously a Professor of Digital Living at Northumbria University and a post-doc in the Socio-Digital Systems group at Microsoft Research Cambridge, talked around the beneficial impact of technology change on later life. He shared his thoughts and experiences designing smart environments, human-data futures and digital living in order to enhance peoples’ quality of life in their later years.
Chris previously worked at Cazenove & Co., specialising in convertible bond sales. He also subsequently worked with S.G. Warburg and NatWest Markets, where he became recognised as a market leader of analysis in the income fund sector. With the likes of Brexit, General Election and US-China trade tensions, 2019 and 2020 seem even more ever-changing and unpredictable than most previous years. Therefore, Chris shared his expertise and knowledge of investing in a changing world and volatile investment markets.
Chris also wrapped up the meeting by reviewing the current environment and its implications for clients and their investments, as well as providing insight into the St. James’s Place Investment Committee’s medium and long-term strategy.
Stephen Adair, Partner at Broad Chare Partners said: “At Broad Chare Partners we are always thinking about the condition of our current environment and the changes that take place, so we can best understand the implications for our clients and continue to protect and grow their finances securely. Therefore, it seemed fitting to incorporate this theme into our 2019 Annual Review Meeting.
Following the success of our previous Annual Review Meetings, we were determined to host another successful event and we were thrilled to have had another fantastic turnout. We were also delighted to hear the great feedback from our guests.”
